Re: Commuting 160 miles in a Spark EV

Yea those numbers are about what we see. Yesterday afternoon I took the car myself and drove all the way to her office. Tires were inflated to 35 PSI, HVAC was off except I had the fan on the lowest setting and the passenger vents closed, and car was otherwise empty. I drove 55 mph and not 1 mph fa...

Re: Drive home 100 mile legs... How slow to drive?

I've done a few 100-mile highway drives in a Spark EV. Made it to 120 once in the 2014, so it can definitely be done, but with unknown battery degradation you will need to be cautious. Wind can also make a big difference. If you're just driving by yourself you'll probably need to keep it to 50 or le...

Re: Not charging

I'm pretty sure that the function of the "transmitter pocket" is covered in the Spark EV user manual. Worth a read. Not sure about the alarm issue. Most common reason I've set it off is detaching the EVSE from the car without unlocking doors after preconditioning the car. Weird but true, if you unl...

Re: 2014 vs 2015

Where's MrDrMorgan? I returned a 2014 lease and bought a 2016 the same day (2 1/2 years ago). From my not-too-precisely calibrated seat of the pants measure and memory, I'd say that the change in gearing makes up for the change in motor torque, at least at low speeds. At higher speeds (>45 or so) I ...

Re: Young Person here needs financial advice on end of lease

I'd rule out option B right off the bat. If you're worried about the cost of buying a used Spark EV, there's no way it will make financial sense to buy a Bolt or Volt. In addition to my Spark, I have a Bolt lease. The Spark EV was a good financial choice when I bought it (after tax credits, it wasn'...

Re: lease end return with bald front tires

With my lease, it was possible to do a "pre-lease return eval" about a month or 6 weeks before it was due. They then tell you how they are going to screw you ... I mean, let you know what fees you will be charged. You can then decide if it makes sense for you to get new tires before returning the c...

Re: Battery Estimation Incorrect Recall/Fix and Battery Capa

Just had the software update, need to do a long run sometime soon to see if the capacity appears to have changed. However, the update did something weird to my reported average miles/kwh (this value has never been re-zero since the car was brand new) its jumped from 5.3 to a phantom value of 51.1! ...

Re: Steering column key slot cover came off - Should I buy i

That's a relief. I think I'll go ahead and buy this car then. I had it in my mind that getting this part to pop off must be a challenge and was picturing a failed thief jamming a screw driver in there or something. Funny, but in this situation I'm grateful to hear that this part falls off easily. T...

Re: Get Spark to go 100 miles?

I have tried the drafting thing and you gotta way close to catch the draft..... i am lucky and i don't wanna burn up all my luck on drafing. Actually I don't think that's true. Yes, the ideal draft is too close for safety - if you could keep it 5 feet from the back bumper of a semi going 50 I'd bet...
