Re: My longest roadtrip 1200 miles

I have made this trip (and much farther) many times in an EV. I have just completed San Diego to Sacramento a few weeks ago in a Toyota RAV4 EV, equipped to be recharged with CHAdeMO. The RAV4 EV has significantly more range than a Spark EV, but either car can complete the trip with basic planning. ...

Re: Chevy Spark EV Range Test, 97.8 miles @ 62mph, Aug 5, 20

It went 5.0 miles per kWh (same as 2014) at 62mph /100kmh ground speed.

5 * 19kWh (2014) = 95 miles (plus/minus some small error)

5 * 18kWh (2015) = 90 miles (plus/minus some small error)

The radio has virtually no measurable impact.

Yes, we tested the 2015 Spark w/18kWh battery and got 89 miles.

Not surprisingly, the range is less than the 2014 with 19kWh battery.

Re: DC fast charging: J1772 CCS vs CHAdeMO vs Supercharger,

At this point, the topic is almost moot. Most new installations are dual standard... BMW/VW is installing some 24 kW CCS only stations as part of: http://insideevs.com/bmw-ccs-rollout/. All of the CCS Combo1 only stations that are provided through the BMW / Volkswagen / ChargePoint agreement are pr...

Re: DC fast charging: J1772 CCS vs CHAdeMO vs Supercharger,

Going tomorrow to test drive and hopefully drive home in a Spark EV! Good luck, hopefully you find a suitable replacement for your Leaf! I know that coming from our previous Leaf, I was totally impressed the first time I used the fast charger on my Spark EV. Getting to 80% is several minutes faster...

Re: Level 2 Charger Install

Tony, It looks like there is a neutral and ground. I agree with 14-50 advertising a 50 amp but it's at most a 30 amp circuit. I think he could have gotten away with just using a dryer cord instead of rewiring the outlet.... Mike, You changed the breaker to a 20 amp? if that's the case you should be...

Re: Connecting an inverter for emergency power

Thank you Bryce I appreciate the reply and advice. I've seen quick connectors on Amazon that are designed for an application like this. So, by keeping the car "on" while using the inverter, I assume that the traction battery power flows through the AGM battery to the inverter, thereby allowing a lo...

Re: Level 2 Charger Install

I'll Debbie Downer here and point out that installing a 50 amp NEMA 14-50 outlet on a 30 amp circuit could be dangerous. Using a 14-50 without a proper neutral also won't work as intended for uses other than EV charging. Lastly, it's specifically against code to put "Romex" cables in conduit. At a m...

Re: LET'S BUILD THE CALIFORNIA WEST COAST ELECTRIC HIGHWAY

Regulated monopoly utilities in California are prohibited from installing chargers, but they are lobbying to change that.

It's an uphill battle.

I do not support going from Exxon and Chevron to PG&E and SCE.

Re: 25% of Spark sales in April were EV!!

GM has already announced the end of the Spark EV (to be replaced with the Bolt in late 2016) Tony, do you have a source for this? We know the Bolt Concept is targeted for a late 2016 launch, but I haven't seen anything official from GM on Spark EV after the current 2015 model year, either announcin...
