Re: 2017 LA Auto show (and California EV infrastructure)

CA might have half the EVs, but they have an overwhelming majority of the Spark EVs. For instance, the two major insurance auction chains currently have 13 totaled Spark EVs between them. 10 in California, 3 in Portland. You'd think they'd show up in Baltimore, but I haven't seen a single one there ...

Re: Spark only showls 65-67 miles of range all the time...LO

Assume two identical cars with two different drivers, with 15 kWh of usable battery capacity. One drives at high speeds a lot, uses the heaters a lot and frequently brakes hard enough to engage the hydraulic brakes, and gets 3 miles per kWh. The other tries to preheat the car while it's plugged in a...

Re: Do you think I could fit a smaller diameter wheel?

After about 40mph, the 140hp limit is in effect and the torque starts going down. The torque limit that applies below 40mph is just to control wheelspin. If you put on smaller tires that grip better than the OE Bridgestones, you'll get to 40mph faster, beyond that you'd have to reprogram the PCM for...

Re: Installing Bosch charger in Oregon for tax credit

The one thing that's irritating me a little about all these RFQ's is that most of the electricians are asking if I am installing this outlet for a car charger. I think as soon as they hear that they automatically assume we own a Tesla and have gobs of money. :? Oh well. Looks like you came out OK i...

Re: Spark is at the auto body shop and I’m having withdrawal

Ah, two idiots and a truck.
That makes sense now.

Painting my car without authorization would cause them all kinds of trouble.
That's the sort of thing that puts me on a sue and destroy mission.

Re: Brake Lamp Replacements

I recently replaced my headlights with LED lamps. And I am very happy with the results. ... Yep, you are 'happy'. What about the oncoming traffic? :?: Those are horrible lamps if the picture on Amazon is accurate. Actually, anything with a Cree emitter is likely to be horrible in a headlamp designe...

Re: 7500 tax credit going away asap

It wouldn't be the first time a tax bill for the year passed in November or December. In 1993, there was a major change passed in December that was retro to January, and it greatly increased the tax liability on certain types of income. It's unlikely that any credits will be revoked retroactively (l...

Re: 7500 tax credit going away asap

taxman, I have a question. this year I made 35k in futures trading profits. I have 15k in carryover losses from last year. in 2018, should I claim the 3k max towards my income first and then deduct the 12k left in carryover losses towards my 35k profits OR claim the whole 15k towards my 35k profits...

Re: 7500 tax credit going away asap

Even retired people should be able to realize enough capital gains to create $7500 in tax liability. If not, save your money and buy a gently used car. Tons of great deals on used EVs. One of my clients had nearly $100k in long term capital gains and zero tax liability. His earned income was less t...
