Re: Charging Question / New Spark EV Owner

Suggestion: plug it in only after the high-rate time ends (9 pm?).

Re: Car locks and unlocks itself

I recommend keeping the fobs as far away from the car as possible, to (1) not needlessly drain the batteries, (2) avoid weird behavior. I actually have a small metal tin that I drop the fob into when I get home to block all 'radio' signals (the backup is 60-80 feet away in the master bedroom). And (...

Re: Battery degredation

Steves Chevrolet Buick in Oakdale has a 25kW charger (Bosch, not the crappy ChargePoint 24 kW unit).

There are two ChargePoint 50 kW (125A) units going in on N Third Ave in Oakdale - work started, unit there, just not turned on yet.

Re: Not charging

I'm pretty sure that the function of the "transmitter pocket" is covered in the Spark EV user manual. Worth a read. Not sure about the alarm issue. Most common reason I've set it off is detaching the EVSE from the car without unlocking doors after preconditioning the car. Weird but true, if you unl...

Re: Not charging

I have had a similar thing happen twice - not charging (no charging light at all on dash), open drivers door, charging cycle starts. In my case however, it was during 2 DCFC sessions.

Re: New Owner! Just got a 2015 Spark EV w/ 26000!

An overnight charge on 120V (10 hours) should add about 50 miles of range. If now and then you need more, use the level-2 stations near your house for a couple of hours, THEN charge overnight.

Re: A "funny" thing happened on the way to CarMax

Look at the bright side :

You may be getting a new PCM (Power Control Module) and maybe even a new battery pack out of it.

Luckily, you now have another EV to drive around while the Spark gets fixed.

(Remember, anything to do with the battery/charging system is covered for 8 years/100K miles)

Re: Just Bought 2015 Spark EV- Did I get screwed?

questions about range come up a lot. You should look through the threads here. - yes, the battery degrades - the range depends on *how* the car has been driven (speed, heater use, stop/start, ...) - cold weather will give you (*much*) lower range look for the threads here, they will answer your ques...

Re: Bolt "Fire Sale!"

Well, OK, different point here, but I have been pounding the idea into my kid's heads that a Roth IRA is great (as part of a retirement strategy). They are at the early part of their careers and don't make THAT much money, so they don't gain THAT much by being able to deduct the trad IRA from income...

Re: Bolt "Fire Sale!"

Just to be really, really, really clear here. There will be NO penalties AT ALL if you do it right. Do NOT take an early distribution. ROLL OVER the money ( directly from trad IRA or 401k into a Roth IRA - you never touch it). If you do that, no penalty (just the taxes owed, which is what you are tr...
