Re: New owner

Drafting semi trucks,,, just to save a few pennies in electrons...... And I thought I was cheap..... 8-) :D In some cases this is the only way to "ensure" you make it to a distant charging location when your GOM says you will not make it. Sometimes, I do it for fun but you have to watch out for roc...

Re: New owner

Read about drafting behind a truck. Driving 100 feet behind a semi at 55 mph will reduce drag on your car by 40%. The drag reduction increases as you approach the bumper of the truck until you get a 93% drag reduction at a distance of 2 feet. Think about that! 100 fee is really far back and you get...

Re: Commuting 160 miles in a Spark EV

I rarely charge to over 85% and I very, very rarely charge to 100%. (I'm a geek and I did a *huge* amount of research about Li-Ion batteries, which may or may not be applicable to the Spark.) I had almost no noticeable battery degradation on my original 2016 Spark (2 years owned) before my wife wrec...

Re: Charging Question / New Spark EV Owner

Suggestion: plug it in only after the high-rate time ends (9 pm?).

Re: Car locks and unlocks itself

I recommend keeping the fobs as far away from the car as possible, to (1) not needlessly drain the batteries, (2) avoid weird behavior. I actually have a small metal tin that I drop the fob into when I get home to block all 'radio' signals (the backup is 60-80 feet away in the master bedroom). And (...

Re: Battery degredation

Steves Chevrolet Buick in Oakdale has a 25kW charger (Bosch, not the crappy ChargePoint 24 kW unit).

There are two ChargePoint 50 kW (125A) units going in on N Third Ave in Oakdale - work started, unit there, just not turned on yet.

Re: Not charging

I'm pretty sure that the function of the "transmitter pocket" is covered in the Spark EV user manual. Worth a read. Not sure about the alarm issue. Most common reason I've set it off is detaching the EVSE from the car without unlocking doors after preconditioning the car. Weird but true, if you unl...

Re: Not charging

I have had a similar thing happen twice - not charging (no charging light at all on dash), open drivers door, charging cycle starts. In my case however, it was during 2 DCFC sessions.

Re: New Owner! Just got a 2015 Spark EV w/ 26000!

An overnight charge on 120V (10 hours) should add about 50 miles of range. If now and then you need more, use the level-2 stations near your house for a couple of hours, THEN charge overnight.

Re: A "funny" thing happened on the way to CarMax

Look at the bright side :

You may be getting a new PCM (Power Control Module) and maybe even a new battery pack out of it.

Luckily, you now have another EV to drive around while the Spark gets fixed.

(Remember, anything to do with the battery/charging system is covered for 8 years/100K miles)
