Re: Electric bike topics/parts

I built a rear hub bike using a magic pie 3 a couple years ago. Haven't got much use out of it. I bought it to save on gas, but then my car died and I bought the Spark.

They are pretty fun, and I can get pretty decent speed without pedaling (except for takeoff).

Re: One Year of Battery Capacity Data

I go to Grass Valley for a bluegrass festival each year. It is a nice area. The first time I went in my Spark I was really worried, between the distance and the slope, I wasn't sure I could make it. Luckily, the sheriff's office has a L2 charger they let me use.

Re: God forsaken 8 amp default

In California, you almost don't have to. There is already a plan in place and grant money available to cities. I say almost, because even though there is a plan and funds, it has been pretty slow to happen in certain areas. There are lots of places it would be easier for me to go if there were just ...

Re: One Year of Battery Capacity Data

I never look at the input from the charging station. Just the used from the car panel. Regen may affect it through rounding errors, but usually regen will decrease the kWh used and the percentage, so it should not affect the total too much. The only rime that wasn't true was when I came down from Gr...

Re: God forsaken 8 amp default

You could always do what I did: Trade in the Spark for a Bolt! .... Congrats on the Bolt ! I'm right behind you,, someday. Looked at your stats: Looks like you had an active weekend, so far, and did "225 miles in one day" ! That would be so much work with a Spark EV, but could be done... :? Not say...

Re: One Year of Battery Capacity Data

It will be interesting to see what happens in Oct, because that is the time of year I have normally gotten my best readings, but I just made a round trip from the charging station in Salida to Jamestown (technically it was Sonora, but really only in post office terms). 98 miles round trip. I had 8% ...

Re: Chevy Bolt sales reality check??

I don't think the data supports that at all. Other cars that come close to that are not killing it in the market. Of the fully electric vehicles on the market, Tesla and Leaf are the only ones outselling the Bolt to date in 2017. The Tesla offerings are quite a bit more money (for not much more rang...

Re: Chevy Bolt sales reality check??

Given that the Bolt is still really only on sale in compliance states, the fact that it is outselling othe electric cars that are available nationwide speaks volumes. It is just behind the Leaf in sales through March (Leafs had some heavy discounting, Leafs are readily available nationwide, Leafs ha...

Re: New Comparison site for EV emissions

Interesting tool, but I don't want to sign up for the GREET tool to get all of the details on how they calculate emissions. For example, are they taking into account that very little of the gasoline used in US cars comes from oil drilled in the US? The oil we produce is mostly unsuitable for our own...

Re: How will new battery change in 8 years??

lets say its 5k to replace. if i can get a 200 mile replacement SparkEV would need about 50 kWh battery of almost no additional mass to get 200 miles. At $100/kWh cell price, that's already $5K, probably at least $7K for pack. Install may cost $2K, so you're looking at close to $10K for 200 miles r...
