I would have nothing against a government run electric car company... If there was a government made electric vehicle that was as fun as the SparkEV and gave even deeper tax breaks I would be the first in line..
I think it should happen and we call it the "Obama Car-E"... E for electric of course...Then everyone could blame the traffic on it ;)
or the "W-E Car" since we are the government(well kinda)...
 
This car would have the following specs:
400 mile range
10 minute full recharge
$20,000
2 Year ETA

It would be delivered as follows:
50 mile range (couldn't agree on what battery to use, so they opted for 25,000 rechargeable Duracell batteries)
6 hour full recharge (they decided to go with a new charging standard, because the contracted company had the best policy towards disabled war veterans)
$45000 (the number of flights, catered dinners, and hotel stays to discuss the planning of said vehicle got expensive in the long run)
.....and it took 20 years to make.
