During daylight driving, my 2015 Spark ev uses "running lights". These lights must draw power, thus reducing the range of the car. I have tried to turn them off by moving the control off of Auto, to the off position. But, when the car is restarted, it also defaults to the running lights on. Is there anyway to drive during the day without running lights, without manually resetting the wand every time I start up?

Those lights use so little electricity compared to the energy needed to move the car, it makes no sense to mess with it.

On the freeway, you can go for about 80 minutes (80 miles @ 60 mph) on a full battery before being almost fully empty. If the lights use 100W then it would take ten hours to use one kWh, and one full hour of use would use ... 100 Wh, or 0.45 miles worth of energy. Seriously, don't sweat it.

Plus you're statistically safer with them on. No question.
That's why they're there.

Walmart trucks used to have a sign on the back of the trailers:
I'm driving with my lights
ON for safety.

You could make one that says:
I'm driving with my light
OFF for danger.
