Should I keep the OnStar subscription?

I declined the OnStar service as soon as I took delivery of my Spark EV, mostly because I use the car only around town and I have a cell phone with me in case anything happens.

Should I have kept the service? The only thing that I can think of that I might want is over-the-air software updates. Would GM still issue these for a 2015 model? Would you need to be a subscriber to get these?

Why would you decline 5 years of the Basic Onstar FREE service? Plus you were probably going to get the more advanced services for 2 years.
Do you know what features you can get from this service?
I find them useful.

I declined the service because the salesman offered to walk me through the procedure for declining the service. Easier to do it then and there rather than later. One of the main reasons I got the car was to simplify my life.

I'm sure that I don't know all of the features, but I've gotten along without them for many years. Calling for roadside service? I have the cell phone. Driving directions? I don't think that I'm going to get lost coming home from the grocery store. WiFi? The data continues to accumulate on my Tracfone plan and I use hardly any of it.

What do you find useful? I have no doubt that this is true, I'm just curious.

Edit: I'm thinking that this post might sound a little defensive and irritated, but it's not meant that way at all.

>Daily txt msg when it's fully charged.
>Txt msg if a Dik unplugs it to be 'funny'. :?
>And the Biggie: I can pre- Cool or Heat it from anywhere I have cell service. Deep in the building, Taxiing in from a plane trip and it's 10*F and the car is plugged into public L2 at the airport.
I can do this twice before I have to visit the car and manually start it.

And this is just the 5 years of Free Basic Service.

The upscale service has other things like 'Vehicle Status', 'Charge Completed' estimates, other non-essential stuff.
True, the Navigation and Crash Notification stuff is not vital on these little EV's, unless your wife is driving it down a dark country road and a deer comes thru the windshield and the car is hidden in a ditch.

What's not to like about these Free Features?

Interesting. The salesman (GM dealer) did not go through these features, which I see could be useful in some situations.

Even though I supposedly declined the OnStar service, I got an email yesterday stating that my trial period was expiring on October 18th. So just out of curiosity I created an account on my.chevrolet.com and will be playing around with it for a while.
