I am guessing the previous owner had onStar and set up a wifi hotspot. I finally figured out how to get the wifi password. I went to the gateway IP hoping there may be a EWS that would let me inspect/change the wifi config ... no dice.

Has anyone found a way to hack into this and use their own SIM card and set up wifi without onStar?

Is there a way to turn off the wifi hotspot?

Anyone have any pointers on where the onStar hardware is located?

I'm not knowledgeable on this subject.
I know it's an added fee with Onstar to get it on the Bolt.
One thing that may effect your plan is,,, I was told the Spark EV uses a 3G cellphone system and that it will not be supported in the future.

Thank you, yes, I read about the 3G going away in another thread (maybe a post by you).

I am assuming there are a few basic functions that rely on onStar in some way regardless of subscription status. (maybe the center console uses it to synch the time?)

I found this:
https://www.wikihow.com/Deactivate-OnStar

Not sure I'll try it, though.

Curiously, my serial doesn't appear here:
https://www.voltstats.net/sparkev/
but perhaps the PO deactivated it after some trial period ended.
