Hi folks,

Is it true that the 2016 EV uses the same parts it has in common with the 2015 Spark (gas) vehicle? I have seen this mentioned a few times here, and it looks like I am getting an intro into the GM parts catalog ecosystem hell.

Long story short, the RH mirror housing had a deformation when we bought the car, and this recently caused the mirror glass to fall off and break. I am looking to buy a replacement for the whole RH mirror, but most parts fitment sites on ebay say that their mirror (which looks to be exactly what's in our cars) is incompatible with the 2016 Spark EV.

The GM auto parts website seems to be the only one showing this correctly:

https://parts.gmparts.com/product/gm-genuine-parts-passenger-side-door-mirror-95260968?bac=272795&body=Hatchback&bodyId=8&bodyNumDoors=5&categoryId=3074457345616983786&drive=FWD&driveId=5&engine=-L%20--%20ELECTRIC&engineId=1133&make=Chevrolet&makeId=47&model=Spark%20EV&modelId=23335&trim=LT&trimId=430&wheel=-&wheelId=1&year=2016

Questions to the experts:

1) I've removed the mirror but couldn't find a part # anywhere. There is a sticker on the foam gasket but it's faded out. I could only find a number (160100) stamped on the bottom of the exterior trim -- is that a serial number?

2) how do I go about cross-referencing the correct parts # ?

  • for the 2016 Spark EV GM has a RH mirror assembly (link above) with Part # 95260968 (unfortunately this is also not the entire mirror, as it does not include the trim piece)
  • for the 2015 Spark (gas) GM has the same part number 95260968
    (see: https://parts.gmparts.com/product/gm-genuine-parts-passenger-side-door-mirror-95260968?body=Hatchback&bodyId=8&bodyNumDoors=5&drive=FWD&driveId=5&engine=1.2L%20L4%20GAS&engineId=5518&make=Chevrolet&makeId=47&model=Spark&modelId=21603&searchTerm=mirror&trim=LT&trimId=430&wheel=-&wheelId=1&year=2015&bac=272795)

  • The seller's listing (see: https://www.ebay.com/itm/373651441054) includes the black trim (paint to match), and none of the part numbers it lists match anything from GM:
    OE Number: 95101463
    Parts Link Number: GM1321451

3) I found another listing here:
https://www.amazon.com/Passengers-Mirror-Replacement-Chevrolet-95101463/dp/B00PBOK0N2
which also lists the fitment for both the '15 Spark gas and '16 Spark EV. It also has some other numbers Manufacturer Part Number, Hollander number, ABPA Partslink Number ... are any of these helpful?

Is it safe to assume that if the mirror assembly looks correct it should be the correct one? Do I need to do more research, or just order the damn thing and bite the bullet? Ideally, I'd like to use the white trim from the damaged mirror (which is intact) and put it into the replacement.

Number 3 looks like a safe bet.
Plus you can return it if it is different.
AFAIK, all Spark EV's are the same except for the battery pack in the '14's.
Good luck!!

edit: if just the glass is the bad part, what about just cutting out a plexiglass mirror and gluing it in place of the glass one?

Thanks NORTON, I'll do just that.

I thought about cutting out a plexiglass mirror too. It wouldn't work in my case. The part of the housing behind the mirror tray has deformed and would still interfere with the mirror tilt. FYI, you can buy a mirror replacement if that is all you need. Read on below if you do this yourself (*).

The factory mirror is made out of thin glass, and easy to break (and makes small shards too). It is mounted to a plastic mirror tray (#4 in the diagram) with some sort of double-sided foam padding. The plastic mirror tray has a round fitting on the back, and clips onto a round tilt table (#5 in the diagram). The mirror and possibly the mirror tray seemed to have a convex shape.

The trim piece (matches the body color) is #6 in the diagram top left, and GM does not include that as part of the mirror assembly. Ebay sellers include a black trim that they expect you to paint to match the body color. The trim simply clips to the back of the mirror housing assembly, and pops off when you pry it.

(*) Note on removing/replacing the mirror. You should not apply localized pressure directly to the mirror when trying to install a mirror replacement. Instead, you need to bunch up a towel and apply pressure over a wider area. Pros will often cover the mirror with tape before R&R in case it cracks.

I can't personally confirm this, but I have read that the Spark EV has "aero-optimized exterior mirrors" that differ from the gas version. See this old press release from Chevy:

Good catch.

Curiously, the GM parts catalog lists the same part number 95260968 for both the gas and EV version of the Spark:

2015 Spark GAS
2016 Spark EV

I'm not really all that surprised. For floor mats, they list the same part number for both cars as well. You can't order the ones with the EV logo on them any more. The ICE version doesn't quite fit in the car, but they still list it. I'll bet there are other gotchas.

95193362 is the RH mirror glass alone.
95260968 is the RH mirror assembly, minus the top cover.
95193363 is the top cover, which is a paint to match part.
All are still available, for now.
