    Battery degredation

Just an update on my logs, as our 2016 Spark just turned 81k this morning on the odometer. Since November 2020, I've been holding a steady "calculated average" of 13.079 kW or 70.7% of the initial 18.5 kW capacity. Not sure what my chances of battery replacement is at this rate. This...

Battery warranty advice for 2014 Spark

My 2016 has been holding steady at a "calculated" average of 13.07 kW since 11/16/2020. Assuming 2016 capacity is 18.5 kW, that average would be 70.6%. I have right now about 70k miles on it, so I'd guess that on 11/16/20 my odometer was between 55k-60k ish given my total commute each weekday...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

Thanks SparkE. Yes, you have a lot of great advice there. I've tried to do most of things you've mentioned; asking invoice, pointing out the rebates and credits and discounts, trying to affirm the final price, but I think in the end the dealer just didn't want to sell the car badly enough...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

So, I did go test drive the Leaf S Plus yesterday. The car itself, does look more modern then the Spark, felt a little cramp in the back seat even though it's a 5 seater, does have a larger trunk space, makes these weird whirling swooshing noises upon initial acceleration and braking, likely...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

Ak...I'm not getting any warm and fuzzies now on GM/Chevrolet. I think this weekend I'm going to go check out a new 2020 Leaf S Plus. With 225 miles range and a heat pump for the cabin heat, is this the way to go? There's still a $7500 federal credit available on them, so after that, the Leaf...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

I took an average of my readings per year between 2018 and 2020 and did a line prediction for 2021-2024, and at 2024 I could expect to be at 8.09 usable capacity for 36.03 miles when the warranty should be 11.04 kWh for a range of 49.2 miles (40% of 18.2kWh). I'm going to show this summary and...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

Thanks, good to know on the Bolt. Ideally I can find a used one at under 30k miles for around 13k and I'll buy. Or a new one at 20k. In any case, I've just scheduled an appointment with the dealership to diagnose the battery capacity. There's a $150 diagnosis fee and if they find the battery...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

LondonBroiler, looking at your signature got me curious on my own lifetime efficiency, and at 60,426 miles on the Chevrolet app its at a dismal 4.0 mi/kWh. I don't know what I'm expecting, just hate this sudden drop of capacity in the last year. If the capacity stayed within about .5kWh per...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

Still no major improvements on my side. I pumped up the tires to 40PSI 5 days ago and still average 13.26 kWh capacity since then. I have been parking the car outside since last September 2019 due to an addition of a Fiat Abarth 500 taking up that garage space now, so I think as a test, for...

    Sudden loss of capacity

It seems like almost EVERYONE has had a sudden drop of capacity this year. Could this just be due to faster driving, due to less traffic? It's not like GM can send a mass update to all the cars that can slowly retard battery capacity. I'm stumped.

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

13.7 kW? That does seem low for only 32k miles. At 32k miles I was still getting about 16-17 kW approximately. I wonder why the sudden drop off for you. For me, I think there could be a few factors that I'm trying to consider: 1) I am "unfortunately" not working remotely anymore, so I...

Battery Degradation vs Battery Limited Warranty

So, battery degradation has hit a low point yesterday, at 13.16 kW for 71.12% (below). I'm right at 60k miles now on the 2016 model; outside temperature this morning was at 35F in Portland. I'm not usingTorquePro, just taking snaps from the main display. Don't mind the sporadic date logging...

    Recent Spark Purchase

Phule1969, I'm up in Portland/Clackamas. Congrats on the purchase!

Creaking/popping noise coming from the front

So an (unproductive) update on this.... I went into Autozone and picked up the spindle axle nut socket set and a 250 ft/lbs 1/2" drive torque wrench. Pulled the middle cap off the wheel and discovered the axle nut on there was actually 36mm. I couldn't get the socket through the wheel center...

Creaking/popping noise coming from the front

Ah, interesting if it's just the axle nut. Tonight I will try to get a 32mm socket and see if this is indeed torqued less then the specified 185 ft/lbs. Reading the Volt threads, it appears the common fix has been 1) re-torquing the nut to 185 ft/lbs, and/or 2) replacing the nut with a...
