Hmm, that is an interesting thought! I like your thinking... I just wonder if the charging is ok with that. Is it truly a drop in replacement? What models have you looked at, maybe I will go that route too :)

I am not sure that this has ever been fully resolved from reading the comments. Info wise, this is the location of the unit, if you wanted to repair/replace it. If for off road use only, you could probably put a load resistor in the place of this and have the fuse in and not have any warning...
