    2016 Spark low charge?

I should add that I am using General Altimax tires which offer better performance but are not low rolling resistance. When I switched from low rolling resistance to performance my range dropped about 8% from 78 miles to 72 miles.

    2016 Spark low charge?

I have a 2015 I bought in 2017 with 19k miles, now with 91k miles. Today's full charge range is 57 miles. I am in TX dealing with lots of 100 degree days this summer. Back in April when weather was milder my range was around 72 miles. Cold in TX rarely impacts me but when it gets below 30, I...

Successful L2 charge using portable generator experiment

Yes, the generator did come in handy! I was without electric service on Monday, February 15 and Tuesday, February 16 when the low was -2 and high was 15. Kind of eerie being the only house on the block with a light on. It felt quite odd driving my EV to fill a 5 gallon gasoline container to fill...

Successful L2 charge using portable generator experiment

Been a while since I've been on here, still happily driving my 2015 Spark EV purchased back in September 2017. Thanks to a recent $600 stimulus check, I thought I would spend it on a generator for emergency preparedness. Power outages in the Dallas Fort Worth Texas area are uncommon, and I...

    Ghetto heater

Why not place something inflatable in the back seat and/or cargo area (if the idea is to reduce the amount of cubic feet of space to heat)? Heat will eventually transfer to the inside of the inflatable, depends on how well insulated the inflatable is, but for shorter trips it may at least be...

    New Electrify America stations

I am quite pleased with EVgo fast charging in Texas, which is good since they are currently the only provider. I am on an infrastructure island in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. If you have not checked out their current plan offerings, take a look. I am on a $10/month plan and only pay more than...

    2015 Spark EV - 36k miles - still 82 miles!

Up to 37,991 miles and just finished another charge to 100% with a range of exactly 82 miles! I guess I have a thing for it being exactly 82, which to my knowledge is the EPA rated range when brand new.

Need info from techies & midwest Spark owners

While tossing around crazy ideas, how about listing the Spark EV on a peer-to-peer rental site (i.e. turo.com)? If that generates enough revenue, it might even pay for some kind of garage space, even if just a storage space with 120v electricity, near the airport where it would be a short...

So it's time for another car...

The white hat hacker in me can't help but chime in here. I would think anyone with a jack in their car (most people, but amazingly not most Spark EV drivers) could easily jack up the car and take off with the EVSE and 2x4. It's been a while since I've seen a car on cinder blocks with all 4...

    Moving On

Hey now! Last month thanks to significant annual fuel savings, I felt compelled to splurge on a custom license plate to raise local awareness! Texas "SPARK EV" FTW!

    2015 Spark EV - 36k miles - still 82 miles!

Saw the 100k post and it inspired me to chime in since when I pulled into my driveway moments ago, the ODO read exactly 36,000. So I guess whatever 3 year 36k mile warranty I might have enjoyed as a secondhand owner may have just expired. Not a big concern. Buying this car was a huge leap of...

Changing digital readout from Centigrade to Fahrenheit

Good advice. I should take it to the Modifications & Accessories section if I want to go full ninja.

Changing digital readout from Centigrade to Fahrenheit

Um, yeah. When it comes to safety inspection, if my brake lights don't work when the brake pedal is depressed, I fail, and I should. That much I will concede. So I'm a minority as an EV driver that also happens to be in the minority on the subject of brake light control. I don't agree with the...

Changing digital readout from Centigrade to Fahrenheit

Is speeding a crime? Granted that is not the same as discreet acceleration, but I hope you can understand the association. That said, I do quite enjoy discreet acceleration! Is stopping without brake lights a crime? Not to my knowledge. Of course it is generally unsafe. Stopping without brake...

Changing digital readout from Centigrade to Fahrenheit

Electric Ninja Road Warrior have a nice ring to it? I did buy a black Chevy Spark EV. It's all Ninja like. I haven't gone so far as to buy black wheels, but recently placed an order for custom black Texas "SPARK EV" plates. Name was available, so I nabbed it! Woo hoo! I'm a big fan of the...

First (and only) Failure @ 54k miles.

I'm generally an optimist, so maybe it is a firmware tweak that really does allow us to use more of the battery before it hits no-go zero. Or it may raise the usable ceiling of what a full charge really can accept. Or better yet, both! Perhaps a 10% buffer was engineered in on both ends, and it...

Putting Bowie, TX on the EV (PlugShare) Map

In hindsight, elevation matters, and may explain why my return trip was more efficient. The trip involved a cumulative 525' climb going up from Arlington to Bowie, same cumulative 525' descent back down from Bowie to Arlington. Arlington, TX elevation = 604' Bowie, TX elevation = 1,129'...

Putting Bowie, TX on the EV (PlugShare) Map

While having a 2006 Ford E150 van at my disposal, I opted to be an EV pioneer and took my 2015 Chevy Spark EV for a 128 mile (one way, 256 mile round trip) journey on the weekend of July 21-22, 2018. Not just under normal circumstances, but in record 112 degree July 2018 Texas heat! Trip to WF...

Best modifications to stay cool in the summer?

I should add that I'm somewhat a disciple of NORTON and don't exactly go easy on the accelerator. I do tend to honor speed limits, but I really enjoy getting to the speed limit as quickly as possible without tire smoke or squeal. (Stealth speed!) If I could actually stand to drive 35mph for 3...
