Is this a common? Looking at buying a used Spark EV

Sun Nov 25, 2018 9:04 am

Hi Folks,

I'm days away from buying a Spark EV (my first electric vehicle) and saw this peeling on the doors. Is this common? I saw this on a few Sparks on the lot. Is it an easy fix?

We have two 2015 Spark EVs. The one parked outside had similar issues. Dealer replaced the vinyl for free YMMV. After a couple years same car is showing wrinkles again on the exterior B pillar. The garaged one looks fine.

Wrinkled/peeling vinyl does appear to be somewhat common but fix should be too difficult or expensive. It would not deter me from purchasing an otherwise fine Spark EV.

It appears to be painted under the vinyl, so I'm curious why they covered it in the first place? Can it just be peeled off?

A little hair dryer or gentle heat gun and it will come right off.

Then live with the base color or mask it and paint it.

I don't have it on my 'soon to be' 5 year old Spark EV, and it lives outside.....
