    Tires

They remounted the tires for free but I didn't hassle them for the premature wear on the fronts. I could've hit yokohama for warranty claim as well, but life is too short for that sort of nonsense. My resources allow me to buy a pair of new tires without sweating. :D

    Tires

Just a quick update, my Yokohama S Drive front tires wore out after 9,000 miles and 1.5 yrs. When I was purchasing replacements, I discovered that the shop that installed the S Drives originally screwed up and put the 195s on the front rims and the 185s on the rear rims! I can't believe I...

What's more efficient - coasting or regen?

I guess the first question is how does our transmission work. Since motors can operate forwards and backwards and have very little friction when being backdriven, there is really no need for F, R or Neutral. Just a single gearing locked in place is all that is required. I'm pretty sure Chevy...

    Torque Steer

I don't know how much the range changes. Fortunately my daily driving is less than 20mi per day (good cause my 10,000mile per year lease works out to 27.3 miles per day). I just crank the A/C, put it in Sport and punch it! Even though all the torque is supposedly available at zero rpm, this...

    Torque Steer

Just an update to this thread. I installed Yokohama S. Drive tires and my torque steer problems have almost completely disappeared --Bob

    Tires

I just put new Yokohama S. Drives on my Spark EV, and the improvement has been dramatic. Accelleration from stopped: no wheel spin. Turning and Accellerating: no wheel spin and significantly reduced torque steer. Hard Braking: significantly improved. Overall Road feel and confidence...

    Torque Steer

Yes, it is very annoying. Seems to be worse if you are accelerating and turning at the same time. I think it could be a function of wheel slip. When you lose traction, on one side the car pulls one way or another. Magnified by the cars automatic power reduction when a wheel starts spinning...

    Performance Boost!?

I don't think more low rpm torque will help at all. This car is tire limited, not torque limited. Everytime I stomp on the gas the tires squeal like crazy until the anti-skid system engages and cuts back the motor output. Has anyone put a decent set of tires on this go-kart? This would...

    iPhone mounting system

Well, after extensive searching, I couldn't find a car iPhone mount which also had a sync connector. So I bought this Belkin Desktop Dock http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008VP22DO/ and installed it myself with a small block of wood and some double sided tape. I have pictures, which I will...

Spark trip, efficiency, and range logs

I saw the video - very cool. Its nice to have a tow ready when you need it! You said the car was power limited at 90. How did that feel? I assume you still managed 100km/hr. My house is on a pretty high hill, so I worry that power limiting will prevent me from making the last 1/4mi to my...

Spark trip, efficiency, and range logs

Took my first long drive today: to the beach! It was 23mi each way so I figured 46total would be easy enough. Five miles into the trip we ran into a major traffic jam though. I got really worried that we'd run out of juice and there was no turning around either. I think the super slow...

    Daytime Running Lights

Ah, thanks. 55W x 2bulbs = 110W. 0.11KWHr * 4mi/KWHr = 0.44 miles of range. Or about 1/2 mile per hour. Probably not enough to mess you up but still enough to be annoying. Too bad they didn't put in a proper LED daytime running light. -Bob

    Daytime Running Lights

I'm kind of annoyed that my headlights are always on. I turn them off regularly when I start the car, but this disables the automatic feature of turning lights on in darkness (parking garage), or rain (as required by CA law). Is there anyway to disable the Daytime Running Lights...

    Charging at home on 240v

The GM Voltec charge station uses 15A and requires a 20A circuit breaker (which implies 12GA wires). You definitely don't want to put a bigger circuit breaker in your panel without verifying the wires are big enough to handle the extra current. Wiring a dryer cord and plugging it in sounds...

    iPhone mounting system

I discovered why the Volume display takes over the entire display: its touch sensitive! Want a big volume change? Press a volume button and when the display appears touch the volume indicator and slide it across the screen. Works okay, but I would still prefer a big knob. --Bob

    iPhone mounting system

Since the nav system and pandora require the iPhone to be connected I was wondering if anyone had setup an iPhone dock. It would be nice if you could just set your phone into a cradle of some kind with one hand and then drive away. The current system is a bit tedious. --Bob P.S. Do you...

    Any Spark EV owners yet?

Just got mine on Saturday. Ordered the GM Voltec Charger from Bosch for $59 ($43tax+15shipping - the voucher covers entire charger and 10towards shipping). It just seems wrong to pay taxes on the free charger. Maybe if it was a coupon instead of a voucher we wouldn't have to pay the taxes...
