I just got my monthly Onstar 'diagnostics report'.
Under 'Warranty Tracker' I saw the red triangle. I have until Feb '16 to use my '24 month' free maintenance, I think....

I bought the car used in June of '15. According to the owner's manual maintenance schedule: "or every 2 years" the cabin filter should be changed and the brake fluid should be changed.

Questions:

> Will the local dealership honor this and cover these parts and services for free?

> Should I allow the local yahoos to do this service to my car? (The Spark EV is not sold locally)

Also, I'm totally capable of performing these two items myself.
On my Volt I'd even do my own tire rotations and take it in for the TPMS relearn for free, (actually I brought a dozen Lamar's donuts in for them!)

Also, I installed uni-directional Kumho tires. No tire rotations can be performed, so the above two items are all there is for scheduled maintenance.

I believe the 2 year maint is only good for tire rotations. I don't remember about the brake fluid but the filter definately is not covered under 2 year maint.

Well Gents,

I called the 800 number in the ONstar 'warranty tracker' field.

I knew talking to the local dealer would be a big waste of time and the way I read the owner's manual these items are due at " xxxx miles or 2 years whichever comes sooner".

I was transferred to the GM EV specialty team that handles Volts and Spark EV's.
After lots of talk and holding, listening to the WORST copy of that Cisco Systems 'Hold Song' ever.... (everyone has heard it...),
it was agreed that these two items should be covered under the 2 yr Free Maintenance Plan.

I was given the extension of the specialist and told to call her if my local dealer has any issues doing this work for free.

Now my remaining question is: Do I want to turn my car over to these guys and trust them to bleed the brakes properly and pop in a new cabin air filter.

Happy Turkey day everyone !!!

That's great news for you. Now if GM would actually offer 2 years of real maintenance to the rest of us....

I don't follow, aren't all Spark EV's sold with a "2 yr Free Maintenance" program?
Are you maybe saying other GM products don't get this service?

Not to change the subject but that happened almost 250 years ago when Europeans came here and Native Americans shared their foods with them.

I think that was his point. Though it's closer to 400 years than 250.

Back on subject: Do all Spark EV's come with 2 yrs. free maintenance?
Has anyone tried to use it?
I was told by someone at corporate that the cabin filter and brake fluid change are covered by this program.
If true, this a Big Deal T-Day gift !!

Not sure about what's covered, but I did get the obligatory dealer mailing telling me my "Spark EV" was due for it's tire rotation and oil change yesterday. I'll be sure and ask them about the brake fluid and cabin filter next time I am in there. I may go in just to drive a new Volt sometime in the next few months...

Sparkler,
Thanks for looking into this! Only in my world, asking the dealer for important info is starting at the bottom. They are not the official word. .. .. they lie ....another is liable to say something different.

Oh, and be sure to tell them they can't rotate the tires front to back.... They make mistakes....

Each dealership is an independent business.

I got a phone call about a year after we bought our Spark EV, when it was suggested it might need an oil change I said "You sold me a car with no engine!" It was fun.
