My VW Passat Owners Manual recommended waxing the painted wheels.
To reduce / prevent pitting from brake embers.
But I can't remember if those wheels had a clear coat.
...like these little go-cart wheels on the Spark.

BTW... it really helped on the Passat...
After 12 years and >160,000 miles, they looked great.

I've had really good luck using Rejex on my wheels. I usually put a new coat on whenever I rotate the tires. It makes a noticeable difference in cleaning the wheels, particularly on performance cars that generate lots of brake dust.

I use Zaino Z2 on the wheels, paint, and plastic. Generally the brake dust just rinses off when washing the car rather than sticking like it does if there's no wax or coating on the wheels. Of course, I don't use the brakes much, so there's minimal dust on my Spark wheels.
